Ryan Reynolds appeared as fan-favorite Marvel character Deadpool to accept an award for the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham at the Creative Arts Emmys. The series, which follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they team up to purchase the fifth-tier football team in the hopes of turning it into a true underdog story, was awarded the Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Series.
McElhenney began the acceptance speech saying…
“Wow, an Emmy, what an incredible honour. There’s so many people to thank. I’ve been waiting for this moment for 16 years so I’ve got a lot to say. I’d like to start by thanking…”
It was then that the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star was interrupted by none other than the Merc With a Mouth, who appeared on-screen sporting his iconic mask along with a suit and tie.
“First and foremost, Wrexham, we love you. Thank you for letting Rob and the other guy tell your story. Cymru am byth, b—hes!
I’d also like to thank FX and Disney for their support and in exchange, Mr Lively promises to not f–k up my next movie. Lastly, The Oscars, you’re on notice motherf—kers. Maybe we can get a token VFX nod next year. The amount of work on Hugh and Ryan’s face alone is at least worth a nod.”
Welcome to Wrexham, which can be streamed on Hulu and Disney+, was showered with awards at the event, walking away with statues for Outstanding Cinematography For A Reality Program, Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program, Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Reality Program (Single or Multi-Camera), and Outstanding Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program.
Deadpool 3 Is Due to Land in Theaters in July 2024
Reynolds’ Deadpool will return later this year with Deadpool 3. Directed by Shawn Levy, and from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as well as Zeb Wells, Ryan Reynolds, and Levy, the Deadpool threequel will see the antihero join the Marvel Cinematic Universe while continuing the same R-rated thrills and spills that the franchise has become known for.
While details of the plot remain largely under wraps, it has been revealed that Deadpool 3 will bring back Hugh Jackman as Logan, aka Wolverine, with the pair expected to head off on a road trip across the Marvel multiverse. And with that will come all manner of cameos, with Shawn Levy revealing his surprise over how easy it was to bring it all together…
“What blew my mind is how easy some of those cameos have been. People love Deadpool. People love Ryan [Reynolds]. Thankfully people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working. So, yeah… I love that there’s been a proliferation of casting rumors around my movie because there’s so many that its impossible to know what’s real and what’s made-up. So, all I’ll say is that starting with Ryan and Hugh… some that the world knows about. Matthew McFadyen, Emma Corrin, really.”
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
