Director Matthew Vaughn has revealed where things are with the development of the long-awaited Kingsman 3, with the filmmaker saying he has written act one and act three of the trilogy closer…but is still working on the middle part. Speaking with Collider, Vaughn also stated that he wants to get Kingsman 3 made as soon as possible before returning stars Colin Firth and Taron Egerton get too old and creaky. See what Vaughn had to say about Kingsman 3 below…
“So Kingsman 3, we’ve got to get on with before Colin [Firth] is way too old and dare I say it, Taron’s [Egerton] getting on as well. So, Kingsman 3 is definitely the conclusion of their relationship. Act one is being written. Act three is being written. Act Two needs some work, right? And so we know how it ends, we know how it begins.”
Released back in 2014, the first Kingsman: The Secret Service is based on the comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons and introduced audiences to Taron Egerton as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin a rebellious young man who is recruited into a secret spy organization by Colin Firth’s dapper Harry Hart.
A sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, sees Eggsy turn to the Kingsman’s American counterpart, The Statesman, for help after the organization is crippled and the world is once again being held hostage by another evildoer. A prequel, The King’s Man, was released in 2021, and while neither the second movie nor the spinoff reached the critical heights of the first outing, there is still a lot of love for the Kingsman franchise, with many hoping that Vaughn will get to finish his trilogy.
It certainly sounds like good news, even though Vaughn is still working out act two of the story, so expect to see Eggsy and Harry Hart return for Kingsman 3…and here’s hoping it’s before they’re both elderly.
The King’s Man 2 Will Be About ‘The Rise of Hitler,’ Matthew Vaughn Confirms
The King’s Man sequel has been written and will build on the mid-credit scene at the end of the first outing.
Kingsman 3 Will Center on the Relationship Between Eggsy & Harry
Details regarding the plot of Kingsman 3 remains under wraps at present, but Vaughn has previously revealed that it will put the relationship between Eggsy and Harry at its center.
“Eggsy and Harry [will be in it], obviously. But it’s the gang coming back together and it’s one of those moments that…when we wrote the screenplay, it was very much about, okay, I saw how people loved the relationship of Eggsy and Harry. So we just came up with this thing, what could be the ultimate reason for them to either fall in love or to hate each other forever? So that’s what this movie is all about is will they or won’t they, let’s just say.”
Before Kingsman 3, Matthew Vaughn will first attempt to launch another spy franchise with next month’s Argylle. Starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson, Argylle follows the reclusive author Elly Conway, who finds herself seemingly dragged into one of her stories when the plots of her fictional books, which center on secret agent Argylle, begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization.
Argylle is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 2, 2024, by Universal Pictures and will later land on the streaming release on Apple TV+. Check out the trailer below.
