Chex settles the debate on Sweet or Salty for the holidays

Snacking is something we all love to do and everyone has an opinion on where sweet or salty snacks are best. Thankfully, Chex is here to break up the debate.

Of course, we’re all entitled to our opinions but Chex decided to take it a step further. The brand decided to break it down by looking at the most popular Chex Mix recipes for each state and figure out where each state falls.

I’m going to be including the map below but I was surprised by how much green was on the map in comparison to red. According to the key, Green is for Sweet while Red stands for Salty and there are some big surprises.

Whether you’re looking for your state or just want to know some fun recipes, we’ve got the scoop on which flavor reigned supreme for 2023.

When it comes to making Chex Party Mix at home, there’s no wrong way to do it but it’s clear the US has a preference for Sweet over Salty. Given that it’s winter time, there are sweets aplenty so why not add some sweetness to the normally salty Chex? Truly, this doesn’t surprise me one bit.

I do think it’s interesting to see that New York, Oklahoma, Indiana and Idaho all enjoy a blend of sweet and salty. While it only happened in four states, I think that’s such a fun idea. Of course, that goes hand-in-hand with the Sweet & Salty Nutcracker Mix. This is a recipe shared by the brand and it hits that sweet spot of featuring a few sweet items with some salty ones. This is definitiely going on my list to make this holiday season.

When it comes to Party Mix, I’ll eat both sweet and salty but I do prefer salty yet my state, Pennsylvania prefers sweet. The recipe that was most popular in PA was Gluten Free Cranberry Nut Chex Mix. Some other cool recipes I noticed were Sweet Maple Chex Mix from Connecticut and Tennessee, Cajun Kick Chex Mix from Mississippi and Alabama, Unicorn Chex Mix from Wyoming and Cheesy Ranch Chex Mix being a favorite in Texas.

Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with either flavor or by combining them both. There are just so many good options when it comes to making your own so just have fun with it.
