Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood star Brad Pitt will reportedly reunite with Quentin Tarantino for the seminal director’s final movie, The Movie Critic. As per a report by Deadline, Pitt will star in The Movie Critic, and while it is unconfirmed whether the Hollywood superstar will play the main character, it is thought that he will. This will be the third collaboration between Pitt and Tarantino, with the actor having starred in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds and 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the latter of which won Pitt the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Details regarding The Movie Critic are being kept largely under wraps, but Deadline does reveal what they have been told about the project by Tarantino himself. According to the report, the movie is expected to be “set in California” in 1977 and is “based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”
The details continue, with The Movie Critic having been inspired by Tarantino’s own experience “loading porn magazines into a vending machine and emptying quarters out of the cash dispenser,” during which time he stumbled upon a movie critic he liked, “who wrote snarky and smart as the second-string critic.”
“All the other stuff was too skanky to read, but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page,” the director said.
While there has reportedly been some rewriting of the script since then, we can likely expect that The Movie Critic will include many of these details, most notably the ‘70s California setting and the main character being a so-called second-string film critic.

These Brad Pitt films certainly deserve more credit than what they received at the time of their initial release.
Will the Movie Critic Also Star John Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson?
Rumors surrounding The Movie Critic have claimed that Tarantino is also looking to reunite with Pulp Fiction stars John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson alongside Brad Pitt, with further reports claiming that the movie will have a female lead. At present, nothing has been confirmed, but should this be Tarantino’s last movie, it is likely that he will want to reunite with as many of his former stars as possible.
The director has stated multiple times over the years that he is thinking of retiring, with comments going back as far as 2012. However, he has stated multiple times that he would like to make ten movies, cement his legacy, and then saunter off into the sunset.
“I’ve been doing it for 30 years, and it’s, it’s time to wrap up the show. Like I said I’m an entertainer. I want to leave you wanting more you know, and not just work and I don’t want to work to diminishing returns,” he said in 2021. “I don’t want to become this old man who’s out of touch, when already I’m feeling a bit like an old man out of touch when it comes to the current movies that are out right now. And that’s what happens.”
The Movie Critic does not yet have a release date. Brad Pitt, meanwhile, is due to star in Wolfs alongside his Ocean’s Eleven co-star George Clooney, and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski’s currently untitled Formula One drama.
